State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan became part of the National Philharmonia named after Zhambyl in 1958. Fuat Mansurov became the orchestra’s first music director.  The first musicians of the orchestra were mainly the graduated students of the Almaty, Leningrad and Moscow conservatories. Today the orchestra has very broad repertory of Kazakh and European symphonic music.

Many world-reknown soloists, such as Sviatoslav Richter, Gidon Kremer, Mstislav Rostropovich have performed with the orchestra. In different years the orchestra toured with great success in Europe, Asia and South America.

The orchestra is based in Almaty and is considered the leading artistic organization in Kazakhstan.
